The department was established in 2001 with an intake of 60 students. The intake was increased to 120 in 2005. The department has a team of expert faculty members and other staff with full-fledged laboratories.

Department offers an undergraduate course in Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). The course is approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) of New Delhi and affiliated to University of Calicut

The department also has a vibrant students association named ECSA(Electronics and Communication Engineering Students Association)
